This weekend I was lucky enough to get out to visit Abbey Lane’s Summer Fayre and the annual Heeley Festival, making the most of the sunshine with two community events full of stalls and entertainment.

Both were fundraising for good causes, including Heeley City Farm and the excellent work they do hosting and promoting community activities, and the Parents of Abbey Lane School group who have given up their time to raise funds for new laptops for the school to use – and have more plans for the future. It’s desperately sad that parents are having to step in to raise money for such essentials but the funding situation for Sheffield schools is absolutely dire.

In addition to the Lowedges Summer Solstice event later that day, they’re a demonstration of the kind of thriving communities we have in Sheffield Heeley, and full credit should go to the organisers for making them such a great success.
