NHS pressure is linked to a halt in life expectancy growth, according to new figures.

Alarming new figures from Sir Michael Marmot show a halt in rising life expectancy linked to Government cuts. Since 2010 rising life expectancy rates have halted for the first time in more than 100 years.

Marmot argues that poor mental health conditions and social care provisions are failing communities like ours, highlighting ‘miserly’ levels of spending on care.

Life expectancy for men ranged from 74 to 83 nationally, and in 2010 sat at 78 for men in Sheffield, while Sheffield women could expect to live to 82 (in a range of 79-86 nationally). Both figures were already below the national average, and these figures show the picture not improving.

This all goes to show that you can’t trust the Tories to improve people’s quality of life, and you can’t provide a decent healthcare system on the cheap. I’ll keep fighting for proper investment in our public services, to see people getting healthier again.
