I recently had a great opportunity to go the Hallam Hubs to talk to young people from across Sheffield who are taking part in the National Citizen Service scheme, helping them get involved in social action to change the world.

We discussed my work in Parliament, how I got involved in politics, and why the voice of young people being heard in politics is so important. Our Q&A session was really encouraging as we had the chance to chat about the power of the youth vote in the recent election and the kind of policies – including the abolition of tuition fees – that young people wanted to see.

We talk about young people being disengaged, and there’s still lots of work to do. But when it comes down to discussing the issues that affect our country they share the same concerns and aspirations as other people, and are really keen to get involved.

If you or someone you know aged between 15 and 17 wants to get involved in the NCS, you can find more information on their website.
