Louise Haigh MP Fighting for Sheffield's future
This week I paid a visit to Meadowhead to join AFC Unity, Sheffield’s independent women’s football team who play in the Sheffield and Hallamshire Women’s County Football League.
They’re supportive of women of all levels and abilities so in that spirit I thought I’d go along and take part in their regular Solidarity Soccer training session.
AFC Unity have done fantastic work getting local women involved in football without needing to be tied to an existing men’s team, and have been taking part in all sorts of community activism.
As well as their regular matches they run their Football for Food campaign, encouraging players and spectators at games to bring food bank donations which are distributed around the city. So far they’ve collected nearly 900kg of food at 24 events, but more is always welcome.
