Louise Haigh MP Fighting for Sheffield's future
This week I was asked to appear on the BBC’s political show, Daily Politics, where we discussed a number of current issues including Brexit, the Government’s policy on higher education, and the #MeToo campaign against sexual harassment and abuse.
Government plans to raise fees on STEM courses are completely counterproductive and out of touch with what both students and employers are looking for from our higher education. The scientists, engineers and mathematicians we train in Sheffield will help build the economy of the future and it’s completely wrong to discourage young people from taking up these subjects.
I’ll keep fighting not just to prevent the Government from further raising fees, but to scrap tuition fees, and importantly for working class students, restore maintenance grants.
