The Minor Injuries Unit at Royal Hallamshire Hospital is under threat.

Sheffield’s Clinical Commissioning Group have published a report on the recent proposals to close the Minor Injuries Unit at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, and the Walk-In Centre on Broad Lane. This was an issue I campaigned hard on and I’m pleased to see that the CCG have identified the problems we raised, include travel time, distance and GP capacity, as some of the main themes of their feedback.

In particular I was pleased to see this conclusion to the report:

“Owing to the strength of feeling that the respondents have shown toward the proposed changes and the opposition to what is being considered a removal of services from the South side of Sheffield, consideration must be given to how access to services could be improved for those residents from the South and East of the City.

This is particularly important for those residents who are vulnerable either through their social circumstances or by the provenance of time. Whether this is alleviated by providing a UTC in the South of the city or working with transport providers to improve access to the current proposed site of the UTC (Northern General Hospital) is something that needs consideration.”

It’s a positive step that the overwhelming opposition to the plans as originally drawn up has been noted. I know that residents in the south of Sheffield are concerned about the plans, and we will need to ensure that this commitment to address their concerns is followed through. I will continue to campaign on this issue, and if you have any questions, comments or concerns about this report, please feel free to get in touch.
