In light of the concerns about fracking in North East Derbyshire which I and many constituents have raised, I was concerned to read the new report from the Environmental Audit Committee which suggests investment in renewables is falling fast.

The report finds that investment in clean energy fell 56% in 2017 and is now at its lowest level for a decade, threatening our ability to transition away from fossil fuels which are both a depleting resource and contributing to global climate change. It will inevitably be harder to meet our energy needs without risky and destructive techniques like fracking if renewables are not getting the resources they need.

Investment from the European Union has been key to billions of pounds of low-carbon projects and infrastructure in the UK, and it’s vital that this country negotiates a Brexit deal which allows us to meet our obligations to protect our climate.
