Louise Haigh MP Fighting for Sheffield's future
This weekend I was invited to attend the opening of the Harry Harpham Community Centre in Firth Park, as well as the launch of the Harry Harpham Foundation, both named for my friend and late comrade.
Harry served the people of Sheffield for 12 years, first as a Councillor, then as Deputy Leader of the Council, before being elected as the Member of Parliament for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough in the 2015 election. He was a lifelong trade unionist and an all-round brilliant man and politician who is really missed, in particular his cheery nature and irrepressible smile.
The dedication of this community centre and foundation is a fitting tribute to a man who spent years working to improve the lives and opportunities of the people he served, and who is still very much missed both in the Labour Party and in his community. I’m looking forward to seeing the good work they’ll both do for people in Sheffield.
