The fire at Grenfell Tower, June 2017

One year on from the Grenfell fire, the survivors and families of victims are still waiting for real answers and closure from the Government. Disgracefully, there are still more than 120 households waiting to move into permanent housing – more than half of those made homeless. They’ve won some victories, including money to remove and replace dangerous cladding – but they’re still waiting on too many other demands, and I know that no amount of warm words from the Prime Minister can replace the loved ones and livelihoods they lost in this tragedy.

We can never fully make up for the ordeal they’ve had to go through over the last year, but today we can tell them that there are people who are listening, and learning, and working to make sure that the policies and decisions that led to Grenfell are never allowed to be repeated and that never again can the safety of human beings be treated with such scant disregard.
