Sheffield, along with the rest of South Yorkshire, remains in Tier 3. The new Covid variant is spreading around the country, so let’s do everything we can to bring infections down and avoid contact with others as much as possible.
Although this new strain of the virus is more infectious, the vaccine will still be effective and there is no evidence that the new strain causes more serious illnesses.
Along with other Labour MPs, I’ll be doing everything I can to ensure that the government delivers support for the businesses and workers that are affected by the Tier 3 restrictions.
And I am very conscious about the risk of the virus spreading in schools. Labour has already written to the government on this issue and I will continue to raise these concerns myself over the next two weeks.
If you are self-isolating and need support, you can get help through the Council’s community helpline on 0114 273 4567.
The government has been failing, but by following the restrictions we can still help to reduce infections and save lives.
