I’ve been contacted by a number of concerned local people who are understandably worried about the planned closure of Jordanthorpe Dental Clinic.

Everyone should be able to access good quality, affordable dental services. For that to be the case, people need to have a local NHS dental practice that is convenient for them and has appointments available. Jordanthorpe Dental Clinic provides a really important service that local people rely on and are happy with. If it is closed, patients who are registered there will struggle to find a replacement.

In a recent letter from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust, patients who are registered at the clinic have been warned of the planned closure. Those who currently receive general care have been advised to find alternative NHS provision, whereas special care patients are being directed to specialist hubs in the city.

However, the distance from Jordanthorpe to the nearest hub at Manor is a severe challenge for many whose mobility is limited, who rely on public transport, and have previously benefited from a service that is embedded in the local community. To make matters worse, general patients do not have an option to move to another local NHS dentist because there are none within the area. For the sake of people’s health and wellbeing, the Jordanthorpe Dental Clinic needs to remain open

I’ve written to the NHS to ask that they reconsider the closure to ensure that residents in Jordanthorpe are able to access an NHS dentist. If you agree, please sign the petition below to support the campaign.
