Thank you for contacting me about the shocking and upsetting reports of women being sexually harassed while quarantining in hotels.

Despite the Government announcing last month female guards for female guests, there was a new report last month of sexual harassment perpetrated a guard. This is completely unacceptable and could have been avoided if proper safety measures had been implemented.

The Department of Health and Social Care now says it will introduce a new phone line for women to report harassment confidentially. This is too little too late, and does nothing to prevent harassment from happening in the first place.

The BBC have reported that Eighteen women have described experiences of harassment to them. Concerningly two of these women spoke to the BBC after the DHSC took steps to fix the problem in July.

The Government needs to step up and admit it has failed these women. This can not continue and action should be taken now to ensure the safety of all women in hotel isolation.

I take this matter very seriously and have written to the Secretary of State to demand for answers regarding how this was able to happen, and what will be done to prevent it ever happening again.
