Autumn Budget
Autumn Budget

The Chancellor Rishi Sunak delivered his Autumn budget today.

The Chancellor had an opportunity today to show that he and the government are truly on the side of working people, and he completely failed to do this.

Workers are facing a cost-of-living crisis, and today’s budget clobbers them with the highest taxes in a generation while banks and corporate giants get a tax cut.

And on the vital rail investment Yorkshire is crying out for, the Chancellor had literally nothing to say.

For a generation of schoolchildren recovering from the biggest disruption to education since the war, the Conservatives’ meagre catch-up plan risks putting futures at risk. Plus, there was no mention of funding for mental health services which are now buckling under the strain of the Covid pandemic.

This budget was a shocking missed opportunity to invest in our communities, and it is workers in Sheffield who will pay the price.
