Mental health support for children is a national scandal

Commenting on the Children’s Commissioners warning that two-thirds of children miss out on the mental health support they need, Sheffield Heeley MP Louise Haigh said:

“The lack of mental health support for children is a national scandal. One child unable to access the care they need is one too many, but shockingly these figures show most miss out.

“With a surge in children developing a mental health condition, the funding available is a drop in the ocean. Schools are essential support for children, but they are being denied the help they need to tackle this mental health crisis head on.

“This Government’s meagre support risks failing a generation, and it’s the most vulnerable in communities nationwide who will pay the price.”
