Earlier this month, Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley opened her office to take donations for a local charity Baby Basics.

Residents and businesses showed how generous they can be, especially in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis by donating more than 1,000 items of baby clothing, nappies, moses baskets, toys and baby wipes.

Items were also received from Cash for Kids who generously donated more than 30 boxes of nappies and 15 boxes of wipes being donated by another charity – Cash for Kids.

Baby Basics is a volunteer led project which supports new mothers and families who might be struggling to meet the financial and practical burden of looking after a new baby.

Louise Haigh MP, said:

“It has been really distressing to see how people are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and how they are having to make some substantial sacrifices. Providing items that are needed to keep your baby safe, warm and clothed should not be something that a new mum or family have to sacrifice.

“When I opened my office to take donations, I knew that people across Sheffield Heeley would respond, because I have seen how generous they have been in the past. I have been overwhelmed to see just how generous they have been. They came in their droves to donate much needed items.

“I was delighted to be able to drop all the donated items to Baby Basic and to see them supporting new mums and families.”

Baby Basics are currently looking for more volunteers to support them to sort and pack donations. Contact them if you feel you can spare some time.
