I’m looking for a Senior Caseworker to work in my constituency office – 63-65 Chesterfield Road.

The successful applicant will be happy to work both independently and as part of our small, close-knit team. We will consider applications for flexible working.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate.
  • Develop knowledge in specialist areas.
  • Engage professionally, confidentially with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, emails and face to face.
  • Ensure all cases are logged; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.
  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially and in line with data protection legislation.
  • Ensure that all cases and decisions are properly documented, writing clear concise reports containing analysis, explanation of the findings and conclusions, and appropriate action plan, to include monitoring and communication procedures.
  • Exercise a high level of autonomy in reaching decisions on cases based on the evidence.
  • Gather relevant information to resolve or progress cases.
  • Liaise and engage with external providers and suppliers as and when required.
  • Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters.
  • Manage a large caseload of complex cases, working in a professional, confidential, caring and sensitive manner.
  • Manage and progress portfolio of casework appropriately.
  • Manage projects.
  • Provide briefings for the MP.
  • Respond professionally, sensitively, confidentially and with integrity to routine correspondence and enquiries by email, telephone, social media and face to face from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups.
  • Take initial action on queries from members of the public, including responding on behalf of the MP as appropriate.
  • There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally.

Additional responsibilities

  • Keeping up to date with developments in legislation and providing briefings for the team as appropriate.
  • Having a good understanding of community groups, voluntary organisations and other interest groups based in the Constituency.
  • Having a good understanding of the Home Office and Welfare systems.

Person specification:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage own workload, work independently, prioritise and work under pressure.
  • Excellent IT – including use of the caseworker system, administrative and organisational skills.
  • Experience of dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a small team.
  • Knowledge of the key issues concerning people in Sheffield Heeley and an understanding of the city.
  • Understanding of and sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party.

Closing Date & interviews: Applications will be closed at midday on Friday 29th November. Interviews will commence immediately, and the position may close before the deadline if an appointment is made.

Interview/Start Dates:

Interviews will be held in person in the constituency office the week commencing 9th December. We will ideally be looking for someone to start as soon as possible.
