Louise Haigh MP Fighting for Sheffield's future
Speaking in the House of Commons today (Wednesday 5 February), Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley has called on the government to commit to a national strategy that tackles violence.
Following the tragic and senseless death of Harvey Willgoose this week, Louise asked the Prime Minister to commit his government to a whole system, cross government approach to tackling violence.
Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley said:
“All my thoughts are with Harvey’s family and all those that loved him at this terrible time. His death was tragic and utterly senseless.
“I support the government’s actions to end the sale of certain knifes online, but in order to tackle the scale of the crisis engulfing too many of our communities, we need urgent action. We need the government to commit to a whole-system, cross-government strategy to tackle the root causes of this violence. That means involving youth services, schools, community and voluntary groups and working with families to prevent children carrying and using knives.
“This cannot wait for another young person to lose their lives; action must be taken.”
