Louise Haigh MP Fighting for Sheffield's future

Vehicle theft is a crime that affects so many across the country as well as those in the Sheffield Heeley constituency. This is a devastating crime that is costly and heartbreaking for the victims.
The government is taking action and introducing new laws that will ban sophisticated electronic devices as part of their mission to make the country’s streets safer.
Alongside banning these electronic devices, including signal jammers, the courts and police officers will be given new powers to target criminals who steal vehicles using these devices as well as those who manufacture and supply them.
Before this new law was introduced, police could only prosecute if they could prove a device was used to commit a specific crime. Under these new laws, anyone found in possession of these signal jamming devices, and who can’t prove that they are in possession of them for a legitimate reason, will face serious penalties.
Those also found to be making or selling signal jammers could face a five-year prison sentence or an unlimited fine.
Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley, said:
“I’ve seen firsthand the devastating effect car crime has had locally. Too many people have fallen victim to these thieves that can access their car with ease and far too many of these crimes go unprosecuted.
“These laws are a big step towards making our streets safe.”
