Louise Haigh MP Fighting for Sheffield's future

I have been contacted by many constituents about the ongoing situation in the West Bank and the shocking breakdown of the ceasefire last month. I am horrified by the resumption of warfare in Gaza.
This week the Prime Minister has joined Emmanuel Macron and Mark Carney to issue the following statement:
We strongly oppose the expansion of Israel’s military operations in Gaza. The level of human suffering in Gaza is intolerable. Yesterday’s announcement that Israel will allow a basic quantity of food into Gaza is wholly inadequate. We call on the Israeli Government to stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.
“We have always supported Israel’s right to defend Israelis against terrorism. But this escalation is wholly disproportionate.”
The statement continued: “We will not stand by while the Netanyahu Government pursues these egregious actions. If Israel does not cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid, we will take further concrete actions in response.
“We oppose any attempt to expand settlements in the West Bank. Israel must halt settlements which are illegal and undermine the viability of a Palestinian state and the security of both Israelis and Palestinians. We will not hesitate to take further action, including targeted sanctions.”
I absolutely support the introduction of sanctions, and join calls for an immediate ceasefire and to lift all restrictions on aid.
Gaza lies in ruins. It is crucial we reach reconstruction. I assure you I oppose moving Palestinians to neighbouring Arab states against their will and any attempted reduction in Gazan territory. Palestinians must be able to return to and rebuild their homes and their lives. I support the immediate recognition of Palestine.
I also remain in firm opposition to illegal settlements in the West Bank, which are a clear obstacle to peace threatening the two-state solution. I am greatly troubled by the continued violent escalations there.
I will do everything I can to push the government to take steps to bring the conflict to an end as quickly as possible and rebuild Gaza.
