Today at PMQs I raised the dangerous situations the NHS is being forced to place very vulnerable young people in due to stretched mental health funding. I asked if she would consider giving NHS England the power and responsibility to inspect the quality of care prior to commissioning beds rather than waiting for the Care Quality Commission to inspect. You don’t often get a straight answer at PMQs so I was pleased that she seemed to take it seriously and said the Health Secretary will intervene. Clearly mental health needs better funding and I’ll be raising this further with Jeremy Hunt. You can watch the full clip here.
