Louise speaking at the rally.

Today I joined the Yorkshire Trades Union Council and other speakers for their public sector pay rally, held in the Peace Gardens. We were calling on the Government to scrap the pay cap which has held down pay for teachers, nurses, police officers and every other public sector worker for years.

Recently we calculated that police officers have lost £6,000 since 2010 and it’s a scandal that after the Government’s U-turn they’re still only being offered a real terms pay cut as rising inflation eats into wages.

Thanks to everyone who made the event such a success, and I can only hope the Government will start to listen to the growing concerns about the effects of their wage cap. I’ll be continuing to put pressure on them in Parliament, as the Trade Union movement and its members stand up for our public services across the country. Watch the video of my speech here.
