Louise Haigh MP Fighting for Sheffield's future
Along with 200 other MPs, I have signed the cross-party Church House Declaration opposing Boris Johnson’s undemocratic attempts to shut down Parliament to force through a no-deal Brexit.
Johnson’s Government is attempting to prorogue Parliament between 12 September and 14 October, which would prevent MPs from passing legislation to stop a no-deal Brexit or passing a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister. Preventing MPs from having a say on the future of our country in this way would seriously undermine our democracy, create a constitutional crisis, and set a very dangerous precedent.
I have always opposed a no-deal Brexit and I’m very glad that, yesterday, Labour was able to agree a way forward with other opposition parties to stop us crashing out of the EU. I will continue to work with other MPs to protect our Parliamentary democracy and stop a no-deal Brexit and will support any and all measures that prevent us leaving the European Union without a deal, for which there is absolutely no democratic mandate.
