Along with other MPs, I’ve signed a joint letter that calls on Boris Johnson to oppose Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s plans to illegally annex the Jordan Valley.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967 but Netanyahu’s announcement that he intends to impose “Israeli sovereignty over the Jordan Valley and northern Dead Sea” would consolidate this control. Such annexation would make a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict impossible, violate international law, and trample over the rights of the Palestinian people. As such, the UK Government must respond robustly to oppose Netanyahu’s plans.

I have been a member of Labour Friends of Palestine for many years and took part in a Parliamentary delegation to Palestine last year. The UK bears a unique responsibility to help resolve the desperate situation in Palestine and I’ll continue to stand up for the rights of the Palestinian people.
