Just weeks until the end of the Brexit transition period, there is still a staggering lack of clarity on what businesses and operators in Northern Ireland need to do to prepare for new trading arrangements.

Not a single clause in the government’s Internal Market Bill changes the fact that new requirements on trade between Britain and Northern Ireland will be coming into force in 13 weeks’ time.

With this deadline fast approaching, a coalition of business groups is still waiting for answers on 60 of the 67 basic questions that it put to the Secretary of State in June on how the protocol will work.

Confusion and uncertainty are putting jobs and businesses at risk. We cannot wait any longer for answers. It’s time for both the EU and the UK government to act in Northern Ireland’s interests and deliver the clarity that businesses are crying out for.
