Our NHS staff worked under huge pressure over the last 18 months and helped us all cope during the pandemic. Unfortunately, it looks like this pressure will not ease this winter.

Today’s report by the National Audit Office paints a bleak picture about the recovery of elective and cancer care performances, with the Audit Office warning that waiting lists for patients will be longer in 2025 than they are today.

Our whole NHS has been massively underfunded by this government and in particular mental health services are in a dire state. I’ve been visiting GP staff who never once close their doors to patients and now, as a result, they have a huge backlog to content with.

We already have a crisis in NHS staffing.  Rather than pitting people against the NHS, the Government needs to set out how it’s going to overcome the massive challenges we face.
