Dangerous pesticides must not be introduced into our environment

I’ve been contacted by many people, who are rightly worried about the government’s decision to reverse the ban on Neonicotinoid pesticides, for sugar beet which were banned across the EU in 2018.

These pesticides have a harmful impact on bees and other pollinators. Bees are vital for our environment and play a part in every aspect of the ecosystem. They support the growth of trees, flowers and other plants which serve as food and shelter for creatures large and small.

In the UK, 13 bee species are already extinct, and we cannot afford to lose any more.

That’s why I’m strongly opposed to this decision that has been made by the government, especially because they have taken it in opposition to scientific advice.  Last year I voted for a crucial amendment to the Environment Bill that sought to prevent the Government from lifting the ban on neonicotinoids.
