Bus Services across the city
Bus Services across the city

I’ve been working with fellow Sheffield MPs Paul Blomfield MP and Olivia Blake MP because we were contacted by King Ecgbert’s school who were worried about the reduction in the bus service, which would affect pupils getting to and from school.

They relied on three double decker school buses to bring students to school. They had found out on the last week of the school term that these buses would be cut, which would leave students stranded.

Mayor Oliver Coppard has invested more than £5.1million in securing school buses, meaning, for King Ecgbert’s this secured two buses.

I’ve spoke to First South Yorkshire and they have agreed to run dedicated school bus both in the morning and after school to ensure that students can get to school safely and then back home. They have also said they will endeavour to ensure that 98 bus is a double decker, adding more capacity to the network in rush hour.

It’s great to see organisations working together to ensure that people can travel across the city, but we shouldn’t be put in this position, where we have to beg and borrow a bus service.

The industry is facing a cliff edge and if the government do not provide further funding, then we could see even more services disappear for good.
