Ofgem’s announcement that the price cap will rise by a further 80% in October will be extremely frightening for many households. This is a national emergency that the Government simply haven’t woken up to. Many people are already on the breadline and today’s news will mean that more and more people will need to make the impossible choice between feeding their families and keeping their homes warm this winter.

The government must now step in and support people with this crisis. Labour will immediately freeze the price cap ensuring that energy bills wouldn’t go up in October.

At times of crisis the country needs leadership. Instead, with this Tory government we have absentee Ministers and a party more interested in tearing itself apart than addressing the real issues facing Britain.
