Louise Haigh MP: Announcement of support with the national energy crisis

The Prime Minister has announced the support that is on offer for households and businesses to deal the national energy emergency.

Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley, said:

“The latest Tory Prime Minister and her government have today shown whose side they are on. She has refused to introduce a windfall tax on the unbelievable profits of the oil and gas producers, instead ensuring that hard-working people are saddled with unaffordable energy bills, that they will be paying off for years to come.

“Under this government’s plan, energy prices will rise to £2,500 in October whereas Labour have a plan to freeze them now.  This announcement will not provide people with comfort when they are already struggling to pay their bills.

“It is absurd that the plan is uncosted and the PM has not made clear who will pay for it or how.

“What’s more, the decision to abandon green levies and to pursue fracking will not bring down the price of gas or help us invest in the sustainable energy sources we need.

“This is an uncosted and ill-conceived announcement – one that will once again ensure that working people are picking up the bill.”
