Commenting on the Transport Secretary’s suggestion that commitments on building Northern Powerhouse Rail in full will be scrapped:

Shadow Transport Secretary, Louise Haigh MP said:

“Rishi Sunak stood on a manifesto to deliver Northern Powerhouse Rail in full, he promised it again in his leadership campaign.

“Communities are sick and tired of the empty words of this discredited government.

“A lost decade of broken Tory promises on rail has led to chronic delays and overcrowding, holding the northern economy back.

“Labour has a plan to call time on a decade of Tory decline, seize this opportunity and deliver this transformational project in full.”
