Last year P&O Ferries disgracefully sacked 800 workers with absolutely no notice and no regard to their rights or the law.
The CEO even came to Parliament and boasted about it, saying he’d do it again.
This week the Government passed legislation to make sure that the Minimum Wage is paid to seafarers. It’s a step in the right direction. But it was really disappointing that it didn’t go far enough in ensuring that another P&O can’t happen again.
It’s been a privilege to work with the RMT and Nautilus to try and improve this legislation to get their members better protection at work. It’s a disgrace that P&O Ferries have got away with it scot free when they should so clearly have been prosecuted
