The government has published their Special Educational Needs and Disability Improvement Plan, which is their response to a 16-week consultation into this area of education.

Commenting on the plan, Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley, said:

“For more than a decade the Conservatives have failed children with SEND needs and their families. I’m contacted on a regular basis by parents and carers who have to fight tooth and nail to get their child the help, support and provision they need to help them achieve their full potential.

“This improvement plan was an opportunity for the government to be ambitious for our children, instead the plan won’t meet their needs or end the scandal of families facing lengthy court battles.

“A Labour government will stand up for children and their families and we’ll breakdown barriers to opportunities. We will reform SEND education by identifying children’s needs to get support in place sooner and delivering ongoing teacher training to ensure more children and young people can be appropriately supported in a mainstream setting.”
