Commenting on the government’s response to the Transport Select Committee report, Shadow Transport Louise Haigh MP said:

“Thirteen years of Conservative failure and broken promises has harmed growth and investment across the north, and damaged confidence.

“It is beyond belief that ministers have taken almost two years just to agree to a study on addressing the impact of their botched plans.

“The truth is the north deserves better than more hollow promises from this exhausted government.

“Labour will call time on 13 years of Conservative failure, and unlock jobs, growth and investment by building HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail in full and delivering the infrastructure fit for the century ahead.”
