Happy New Year, I hope that you managed to have a restful festive season.

2023 was a year of highs and lows but I’m looking forward to a positive 2024 and the opportunities and challenges it brings.

This year, I will continue my work of holding bus operators to account and working to improve services for passengers across Sheffield and the country.  Passengers across the city deserve better than the service they are getting at the moment. All last year I heard from residents from all across the constituency about services being delayed, not turning up, missing or cancelled.

It’s time that services were run for passengers and not for the profits of private companies. That’s why a Labour government will fix our broken bus system and hand power and control to local communities through our Take Back Control Act. Our bold plan will represent the first steps in the biggest reform to the bus sector in a generation and put communities firmly back in control of the services they depend on.

And it won’t stop at buses – we want to expand power and control across our entire public transport system so that it actually works in the interest of the public.  That means reforming our railways after seeing record delays and cancellations over the last year.

Instead of sanctioning the operators the Tories spent last year rewarding bad behaviour and awarding these failing operators’ long-term contracts. Labour would end this scandal by bringing the railways back into public ownership and put passengers first.
