Gleadless Valley Masterplan
Gleadless Valley Masterplan

For more than two months, Chair of the Housing Committee, Cllr Douglas Johnson and the three councillors for Gleadless Valley have failed to answer basic questions about the Gleadless Valley Masterplan leaving residents feeling abandoned.

In early February (12th February), Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley, who represents Gleadless Valley, wrote to Douglas Johnson and his fellow Green Councillors for Gleadless Valley asking them straightforward questions about the delivery of the Masterplan.

  • When the new proposal to deliver the Masterplan will be made public?
  • When can residents expect their homes to be transformed?
  • Who will be held accountable for the delays?
  • What outcomes have been achieved with the more than £1million that has already been spent?
  • Has the Chair of the Housing Committee approached the Government for more funding to deliver the project in full?

But to date, the questions have not been answered and hundreds of residents have been telling Louise how let down and abandoned they feel.

One resident said: “They built up everyone’s hopes, and they should have stuck to their plan. Instead, they have broken their promises. My main concern now is if this will actually go ahead and if so in what time period.

Another told Louise: “These delays have impacted me and my family hugely. My property is not fit for purpose, it’s dilapidated and inhabitable. I have four children living in a house full of damp and mould, and it should have been demolished and rebuilt.”

Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley, said:

“It’s disgraceful that Cllr Douglas Johnson and his fellow Green Councillors who are supposed to represent residents across Gleadless Valley think they can avoid responsibility for their failure to deliver this transformative plan.

“Gleadless Valley, which is in much need of investment has been given more than £90million by government but it has gone unspent.  Residents were told their homes were going to be demolished or remodelled and nothing has happened.

“I’m doing my best to support residents and ensure that repairs are made to properties, but the clear fact is that these homes are now not fit.

“I will continue to press the Green Councillors and the Chair of the Housing Committee to deliver the Gleadless Valley Masterplan and ensure that the community is invested in.”
