Louise Haigh MP Fighting for Sheffield's future
Louise Haigh MP welcomes Great British Energy funding for solar power for local school in Sheffield Heeley
Louise Haigh MP has welcomed the news that Great British Energy will be funding solar panels for Arbourthorne Community Primary School in her constituency.
The Labour government has today announced details of the 250 schools set to benefit from Great British Energy’s expanded scheme, with Arbourthorne Community Primary School in line for clean power funding to cut energy bills.
The programme – which is the first major project for the Labour Government’s publicly owned energy company – will mean less money wasted on energy bills and more resources going back into frontline services.
It’s estimated that the scheme could save schools thousands on their energy bills over their lifetime, showing the difference that clean power can make towards energy security for local communities.
Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley, said:
“I’m absolutely delighted that Arbourthorne Community Primary School has been chosen for this investment. It’s a brilliant example of how Great British Energy can make a real difference in our community. Cutting bills, cutting carbon, and freeing up more money to support children in the classroom.
“For years, I know that schools like Arbourthorne have felt the strain of soaring energy costs. This funding means they can put more back into the things that matter most: supporting staff, pupils and the wider school community. It’s exactly the kind of practical, everyday change Labour promised, and I’m proud to see it happening here in Sheffield Heeley.”
Vanessa Langley Headteacher Arbourthorne Community Primary School, said:
“We are delighted to have been chosen to receive Great British Energy funding to support our environmental and sustainability initiatives at Arbourthorne Community Primary School.
“The solar panels will enhance the work we have undertaken with Let’s Go Zero and increase the scale of our development. The children are enjoying being part of our environmental improvements and it is raising vital awareness as we plan for a more sustainable future.”
