Thank you for contacting me about the legalisation of medicinal cannabis

As you will know, I supported the legalisation of medicinal cannabis and I am pleased that the Government not only accepted that cannabis oil is a medicine, after repeatedly denying licences to children who are clearly in severe pain and discomfort, they have now legalised it for medicinal use in the UK. Recently the Government announced that cannabis based medicinal products, such as cannabis oil, can be prescribed by specialist doctors from the 1 November 2018.

This is great news for the parents of Billy Caldwell and Alfie Dingley and others who need cannabis oil to be able to treat or ease the symptoms of their medical conditions.

Unfortunately the second reading of the Legalisation of Cannabis (Medicinal Purposes) Bill did not get debated on the 6 July and has been rescheduled for the 26 October. I will continue to support this Bill and follow proceedings closely.
