Residents across Gleadless Valley have been let down by failure as no progress has been made to deliver a £90million transformative plan.

Since 2022, residents have been waiting to feel the benefit of the £90 million Gleadless Valley Masterplan which would transform the area by providing new and refurbished housing, creating more green spaces and investment in community facilities.

Residents who would be affected by this project have been told that their properties are to be demolished or substantially remodelled but have seen no progress. And whilst no action has been taken the money allocated for the scheme continues to dwindle further.

Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley has now written to the Green Chair of the Housing Committee, Cllr Douglas Johnson and Gleadless Valley’s three Green Councillors to express her serious concerns about the lack of delivery of the Masterplan.

Louise Haigh MP for Sheffield Heeley said:

“Residents across Gleadless Valley have been given promise after promise that they would have new homes or substantial upgrades to their homes but have seen no progress whatsoever.  They are frustrated and feel badly let down.

“I’m regularly contacted by residents who are struggling to get repairs completed to their property and are forced to live in damp and mouldy conditions because no progress has been made on the Masterplan.

“More than £90 million was allocated to the people of Gleadless Valley but so far none of it has been spent on visible improvements for residents.

“That’s why I have written to Cllr Douglas Johnson to demand action. Residents need to know when they will see progress and when they can expect their homes and communities to be transformed. This money was promised to Gleadless Valley, and residents should be feeling the benefit of it, instead many feel like they have been forgotten about.”
