  • The soup recipe from Grace Food Bank

I’ve visited Lowedges Community Centre, where lots of community groups as well as services like the fire service were out in force. There were all sorts of activities on show like Timebuilders, tennis, taekwondo and arts and crafts, as well as volunteers from Grace Food Bank giving out bags of food with a great, affordable recipe for minestrone soup.

Summer holidays are a tough time for food banks and those who need to use them, as the school dinners children receive aren’t on offer – it’s why we’ve been keen to encourage donations from those who can make them. You can find details on how to donate to Grace here, or bring supplies down to my office on Chesterfield Road.

I met this lovely family, Kelly, Demi, Wendy and Sam, on the visit – I’m happy to see so many people enjoying themselves since the community centre was refurbished last year.
